Installing anti-slip stair treads is a quick DIY job. Proper surface prep is the difference between treads that last years and ones that peel in weeks.

Clean and dry every step

Wipe each step with rubbing alcohol to remove dust, wax and oils. Let it dry fully — adhesive bonds to a clean surface, not a dusty one.

Position before you peel

Dry-fit each tread and mark its spot. Center it with an even overhang on the step nose so your foot always lands on grip.

Press firmly and cure

Peel the backing, press from the center outward to remove air, and avoid heavy traffic for 24 hours so the adhesive can fully cure.
